To Build Knowledge and Awareness Towards Prevention
of Trafficking and Sexual Abuse Among Children
This program has been continuously worked for five years with the
support of ECPAT International. The aims of the program are to develop
the quality of life and educational opportunities for children and
adults that enables them to be aware and have knowledge about children's
rights, reproductive rights, and gender roles; to promote young girls
and housewives to possess life skills on equal knowledge and sexual
abuse, and to strengthen the capabilities of community organization
and networking in order to prevent sexual discrimination among children.
As a result of the implementation of the above-mentioned activities,
the target group of 1,691 children, community youth, school teachers,
government officers and NGOs were able to participate by having the
alertness towards risks on children and to prevent trafficking among
children and youth. The YMCA also conducted training programs to provide
appropriate knowledge for educational providers among various learning
institutions. This enables the community to strengthen its capabilities
and coordinate at the policy level so that the related policy that
protects children's rights be effectively practiced among different
public and private organizations.
To Strengthening the Capabilities of Children
and Youth in the Campaign for Life Wisdom Regarding Sex and Youth
This program has been implemented for the first year with the support
of National Council for Child and Youth Development. The aims of this
program are to develop the children and youth to have knowledge of
and the ability to analyze the problem situations of health and sexual
life among youth, to promote skills to children and youth leaders
in disseminating and campaigning their knowledge and experience regarding
sexual life wisdom including application of safe sex in teen-age life,
to strengthen the capabilities of youth leaders in terms of health
development in joint and continuous cooperation with schools and communities,
and create good sanitation among communities. The target groups consist
of school and community youth at the secondary level in 3 schools
and youth from a hill tribe village, all in Chiangrai and Phayao provinces.
At present, there are about 132 youth leaders who have the task to
campaign on sexually-related problems in the community and schools.
To Strengthening of Capabilities of Northern
Women in Hill Tribes and Rural Areas
This program has been implemented since April 2002 with the support
of Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs. The goals of this program are
to build awareness of women rights regarding co-existence by conducting
training programs to provide knowledge of reproductive health, human
rights, gender roles, and violence, to strengthen the capabilities
of women groups/network in the community through women participation
in the set up of community action plan and campaign cooperation with
the community and external networking groups in order to become a
reality, especially for hill tribe women. The target group of this
project consists of about 150 women.
